THE HARVEST MOON.

Soft, gentle rd y 9 nra fulling, Like silv'ry shafts they come, Shut from pale Luna's light-bow When the bright day is done ; In showers of argent softness They beautify the night, These gift* from fair Selanc— Orbed queen of evening light. She cometh at this season, Each advent not delay«d, Close on the fading sunlight, To brighten evening shade ; Round, full, in orbed splendour She supplements the day, And aids the harvest toiler, la the goldeu fields to stay. When Sol—whoso bright rays ripen— In golden glory drest, Retires in evening splendour And uuks into the west, O'er fields where erst in glory The yellow corn ears waved. She shines and lends her brightness That golden grain be saved. The tranquil dewy evening— The silvery flood of light— The hushed repose of nature— The matchless queen uf night— The fleecy clouds slow moving By Zephyrs gently driven, That float serenely, slowly, Across the face of heaven — Should teach us peace and gladness, Our wayward spirits calm ; An i Nature's perfect beauty Be unto ns a balm. Our sojourn here is fleeting, Life's eveninp cometh soon ; We pass away like Heecy clouds, Acrjss the harvest moon. Gleanbr. London has a lady auctioneer. J , ■.
