CHARGE OF MURDER.
THE EKETAHUNA AFFAIR,
(by telegraph.—press association.) Eketahuna, Last Night. The jury, after hearing considerable evidence, returned the following verdict with reference to John Dalton: —" The deceased was wilfully murdered by some person, or persons, unknown." The utmost interest was evinced m the proceedings, and when the verdict wa3 announced a slight murmur of applause went through the Court. At ten o'clock this morning Smith and Harrison were brought before Colonel Roberts, R.M., and formally charged with the wilful murder of John Dalton. Both prisoners appear anxious and agitated. Inspector Thomson said that after the result of the inquest he did not feel justified in going on with the case at present, and would, therefore, ask for a remand until Friday, 26th inst. Prisoners' counsel offered no objection, and the remand was granted.
