ROMNEY MARSH SHEEP.

Mr Joseph Barugh of Wartle, who owns one of the beat flocks of stud Lincoln sheep in Waikato, is adding another branch to his business as a breeder, having lataly procured a hundred pure Romney Marsh ewes from the best flocks in the Palmerston district, where this breed is very much esteemed. The selection of this lot of ewes was entrusted to Mr Braithwaite, now a resident in Waikato, who it is said was the first to introduce this valuable breed of sheep into New Zealand. The Romney Marsh sheep are noted for their hardiness, and as the name implies they come from a marshy district and are therefore peculiarly suitable for reclaimed swamp lands, an increasing area of which is yearly coming in owing to the extensive drainage operations that have been in process for years past in Waikato and the surrounding districts. We congratulate Mr Barugh upon his enterprise and from what we can hear this class of sheep as it becomes better known will to some extent supercede the more general use of the Lincoln for cross breeding purposes, at any rate people are fond of a change and with the "Romney Marsh " Mr Barugh will in all probability meet a demand which is likely to set in for this particular breed in the near future.
