C AMIS 111 DGE V. r.YTEKANGI The first match of the season between the above Clubs was played in one of Mr J. K. Scott's paddocks on Saturday last, and after an enjoyable same, resulted as usual in a win for Paterangi, this time by 78 runs both innings being played out. Cambridge were unfortunately one man short in each innings. The Cambridge captain, Mr Lonsbottom, won the toss, and decided to send their opponents into bat first, who put together 5G runs, Worsley making top score with 12. After lunch Cambridge took the wickets, but could only put up 19. Aubin bowled well securing six wickets for three runs. Paterangi's second attempt resulted in 101 runs being made or which C. Bowden scored 20, f. Bowden 19, Worsley 15 and Nabbs 19. With 139 required to win, Cambridge again went in, making 00, of which R. Mears made 20 and Garland 12. The game, although rough, was a most friendly and enjoyable one, as always is the case when Cambridge and Paterangi meet. It seems a great pity that Cambridge cannot put a full team in the Hold, aH on Saturday they only had seven of their own men, the other three being made up with R. Mears froin Auckland, and two junior members of the home team. Thn roturn match will be played at Cambridge on the 12th March, when a good game will no doubt result. The following are the scores and bowling analysis.
