THE VAGARIES OF OUR CITY FATHERS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—lf your report of the last meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council is correct, the resolution proposed by Cr. Sandes, seconded by Cr. Salmon, and carried unanimously ro my application for pipes, is not only a public insult to myself, but a sample of the haphazard, vague manner in which council matters are often conducted. If councillors had inspected the spot, as agreed to at a previous meeting, they would have seen that the drainage from my premises is perfect, and that the required improvement is on what is destined to be a footpath in the second business street in Hamilton West, and must, in time, be carried out at the expense of the borough. The least that might be expected of a public body, when there was suspicion of defective drainage, would be to ascertain facts before grossly libelling.—Yours, etc., J. R. E, Hatrick. Hamiltun, Feb. 12th, 1892.
