Home Rule for Ireland was the first step of a frank and fearless policy of uniting Great Britain, Ireland, and the colonies for the maintenance of their common interests of defence and commonwealth. He contended that perfect self-govern-ment must previiil throughout the Empire, and declared that his criticism of Lord Knutsford's colonial policy was warmly approved in Australia.
