HUNTLY.
Death.—Another old settler has passed away in the person of Mr Geo, Hill, senior, of Matahura, who died at his residence ou Thursday evening. The deceased gentleman had been suffering from a painful internal complaint for the past two or three weeks and other complications supervening proved too much for his aged frame to withstand and he died peacefully in the midst of his family. The condition of the late gentleman's homestead proves what can be done by a man with energy and perseverance on our Waikato lands. The greater portion of it when operated upon by well directed and unremitting labour can be made to blossom as the rose and yield in its season a rich and abundant increase. A widow and grown up family survive the deceased gontleman. ~ . Accident.— A painful accident happened to a lad named Bolton last Wednesday. In the course of play he was thrown from the back of another lad and in doing so dislocated his arm at the elbow. Dr. Broome was called in and reduced the dislocation, but it is hard ou the father who being a miner contributes his quota toward the sick fund and for the services of a doctor who resides in Hamilton 2o miles away It is but another instance of the terrible disadvantage under winch we ue placed in not having a medical man resident in the place to act for the different clubs. A Doctor Wanted.—lf this should meet the eye of a doctor who wants to get into harness let him direct his steps hither and it's a moral he won t repent it. Mercer Regatta.—A. number of the men working at the shaft are in hoavy training for the canoe races at the forthcoming Mercer Regatti. The river is resonant with the cries of their fuglemau as they stem the current every evening in their Whakatiwai.
