Mr Ar.K.t. aitken's Market Report.— During the past week a laree general business has been done, and a few changes in values have taken place. Potatoes have been in supply far in excess of demand, and consequently the market is disturbed ; prices have fallen fully £1 per ton on previous quotations. Lip to Monday, £3 103 was obtained for some samples, but heavy Buppliss have necessitated the disposal of about 50 tons by auction, very few of which were first-class. Values ruled from 303 to 50s for table potatoes, and 20s to 30s for cow and Shepherds. Potato onions have been plentiful, and Bold in considerable quantities at M to £d and £6 per ton. Maize have gone off in good quantity at 2s to 2s 3d, and Is 10d to Is lid for damaged lots. Vegetables of all kinds have sold at high prices, and the supply has been satisfactory. Butter: Fresh to hand, in gjod quality, the bulk of which was only second class, and sold at Gd to Bd, really prime up to lid per lb. Keg butter, prime snringmade, in good demand at to Bd, it which price a gooll quantity has been quitted; aummer-made also in good demand for pastry at Gd to 6Jd; eggs have come to hand in good quantity, and sold at an average of Is per dozen; cheese has been in good supply and demand, all consignments being cleared privately at 3|d to 4d per lb; honey is rather dull of sale at)present; bacon and hams, no change, none but inferior and damaged offering, for which there is no sale, Canterbury is at present the only kind procurable in sound condition, at7d to BJjd for hams. Fruit since my last.has been steadily improving in price; the supply of inferior apples has been smaller, consequently good brands have sold at a better average ; choice cookers, gd to ljd ; average, §d ; interior, 6d to 2s per case, and Jd per lb; extra choice dessert apples, including Scarlet Pearmains, and second crop Irish Peach, ljd to 2d ; ordinary, £d to £d. Plums : There is a difference of fully Id per lb between Tuesday and Friday's salee; Tuesday's average was abont ljd, while fully 2d was averaged on Friday ; the quotations will include the higheet and lowest price 3 for the .thrne siles, including all kinds in good order, viz., ljd to 4Jd the, varieties being too numerous to particularise ; damaged and soft, Jd to ljd ; damsons, Id to ljd, averaged ljd, poor samples, £d ; nectarines, 2d to 4d per Ib.and 3d to 7d per doz ; peaches, 3d to 9.sd per doa, and Jd to 4Jd per lb; Cape gosseberries, 4d to GJd ; lemons.ls 5d to Is 9d per doz; tomatoes, Id to ljd per lb; pears, common kinds, Jd to ljd; William's Bon Chretien, choice, clean, to 2id ; small dark and marked by beetle, l| to ljd; passion fruit, local, 2jjd to 3d per doz; Sydney, 3s per case; oranges, 3s per case; pines, 4s 9d. Poultry was penned in unusual large quantity, and values a shade lower all round, excepting heavy table fowls, which sold at previous quotations, viz., Is 8d to 23 5d each ; ordinary lots, Is 4d to Is Gd ; poor conditioned, small, and old. Is to Is 4d ; table roosters, in condition Is 8d to 2s 6d each, others Is 2d to Is Gd; ducks, 10d to Is 6d ; geese, 13 10d to 3s ; turkeys, heavy gobblers, 5s to Gs 3d, poor, 3s t« 4s 3d, hens, 2s 3d to 4s Gd according to condition ; pigeons, 8d to Is 3d ; canaries. Is !)d to 4s 3d. Pigs wore penned in good numbers on Friday, and an unexpected demand caused good prices to rulo throughout the sale, first-class lots, its to 16s 6d, the higher figures being for extra good lots; ordinary, 7s ..to 8s; poor lots down to 3s each.

LONDON COMMERCIAL. (by electric telegraph.—copyright.) London, January 7.—The imports during the past month increased £'49.744,000, while the exports decreased £688,000. Tallow, medium mutton, 26a ; beef, 24s 6d. Australian hides, called heavy ox, 31a 8d ; salted light ox, 27s Bd. The quantity of wool catalogued up to date it 150,800 bales, of which 137,400 have been eoled. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Aeency Company report :— LONDON, February s.—Tallow : Market steady. Quotations are unchanged since last telegram. Froaen meat: The market has an upward tendency. Canterbury and Wellington mutton are worth respectively 4jd and 4&d.
