DIFFERENCE OF OPINION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I see by your paper report of a meeting of the Piako County Council that an application was made by the Taotaoroa Road Board to have the now dry water trough on the Cambridge-Oxford road replenished with water and also the approach to the ford on the Matamata road put in repair. The former job which has cost several pounds and will cost several more, they have instructed the engineer to attend to. The latter watering place which has cost nothing and is used by most of the travellers and only wants half a day's labour by the surface man (without an engineer) to make it safe and passable for a load is declined, with a suggestion that those who use it may repair it. Who is the representative of that district and was he present when he allowed himself and constituents to be thus snubbed ? The Council has often been requested to improve the Matamata road over the hills and last year handed £21 over to the Road Board, rather than improve the roads as desired by the settlers. This was reluctantly received by some members of the Board, but they were assured that the Council had plenty of funds available for their roads. But Alas ! Behold the first application sinco for half a day's work. —I am, etc. Onk Who Thavels that Road.
