Tht Waikato Times OMce, Wednesday. MARKKT REPORTS. The Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report under dato : Chiustchukcjh, January 22.—Wheat : The Home market has, unfortunately, manifested a steady downward tendency foi-some time, and latest cablegrams point to u continuation in tho same direction. Tho new yield will, no doubt, bo good, both as regards quality and quantity, but would have been better in both respects but for recent wet weather in sever? 1 districts. Prices for new crop have not yet opened, and holders of old stocks ask -Is to 4s 3d f.0.b., according to description, sacks extra. Oats: Very little doing in this market, and buyers are now holding off until the new season's values are established. The quality of what lias been offered of the new crop is very satisfactory, but as yet we have no transactions to report. Quotations for old slocks are—Prime milling Is lOd, heavy fend Is 8d to Is !)d, long Is (JJd to Is per bushel t.0.b., sacks extra.—Dairy Produce : Butter in kegs Gd to 7d per lb, cheese 3.U1 to 4d per lb. "Sydney, January 19.—Wheat (duty KM per lOOibs) : The attention of buyers has of late been entirely confined to our own new wheat, both Sydney and country millers operating freely throughout the wheat-growing districts of New South W.ilcs at figures equivalent up to 4s lid per bushel, delivered at rail, Sydney. The market at present may be described as firm, but as tho home market continues to drop and Melbourne values are steadily receding in consequence, we dn not anticipate that higher figures will rule locally. As it is, even with an import duty of lOd per cental, Victorian quotations almost permit of competition in this market with our own wheat at present rates. Chickwheat is in good demand at up to 4s 3d, supplies running rather light.—Oats (duty lOd per lOOlbs) : The recently imposed duties, together with the glutted state of the maize market, has almost entirely prohibited any import business of late, the receipts during the past few weeks ruling wry light indoed, the result being that stocks are now running short and we quote in consequonce a lirm market as under :— Prime milling and feeding samples to 2s Cd per bushel; fair feed descriptions from 2s 3d to 2s 4.W per bushel. Butter: (duty 2d per lb.) The market during the past few weeks has remained very steady, best local factory ruling up to !M, and dairy and separator up to 7Ad and 8d per lb respectfully. Values aro very firm and wo are inclined to think that somewhat butter pricos will rule shortly.—Cheese (duty 2d per lb): Tho market remains in an absolutely glutted condition, the supplies of locally-made cheese being still considerably in excess of requirements and we quote same at from 2d to 4£d per lb, loaf cheese up to 5d per lb. There is no New Zealand cheese in the market. —Potatoes (duty 10s per ton): The market has of late been almost entirely supplied with our own potatoes from tho River districts, which have ruled fairly steady at from £2 10s to £3 per ton. Their condition, however, is not all that could be desired, and Wavrnambnols are meeting more attention at up o £315s per ton. Adeoaioe, January 14.—Wheat : Prices are somewhat easier since our last report, owing to the lower values now ruling in London, and also in the Melbourne market. During the past week we have sold about 15,000 bushels, at from 4s 5Jd to 4s (id per bushel at Port Adelaide," gross woight, bnss included. Under date 12th inst. our London office wired us as follows : "Stocks are heavy, and the market is depressed. C.i.f. and spot quotations have declined Gd per quarter since last report. Quotations are nominal.—Oats (duty, 2s per cental) : Quotations are unchanged at 2s 3d to 2s 4d delivered in bond, Port Adelaide.
