MR McNICOL'S ANNUAL SHEEP FAIR.
Sincb the inauguration of sheep fairs in Waikato, every year has seen a steady increase in the number of sheep brought forward for sale, over that of the previous one, buton this occasion a very marked advance has been made as quit:! double the number of sheep were catalogued over that of last yeai, and Mr McNicol already notifies that another fair will be held later on. The attendance yesterday at Ohaupo was the largest yet brought together there, the special train from Auckland had fully seventy passengers on board picked up at the different stations on the lino of nid. Numbers of buyers from tho Thames, Tauranea, Raglan, and the King Country added largely to the list of interested spectators. Mr McNicol had made very complete arrangements for handling the stock, the pens were well arranged and each one bearing a number made it an easy matter for buyers to follow the sab. In addition to the care taken in this part of the sale Mr McNicol placed in the hands of his customers a very complete and detiiled catalogue, giving number of pen, tho seller's name and a full description of the stock. Punctually at noon the sale commenced. Tho bidding started by no means briskly and it was soon evident that there was not goincr to bo the same keen competition for all classes of sheep as was the case last yoar, prices rulinn from Is to 2s per head lower, the greatest drop in prices being in the Merino and aged sheep classes. As the sale progressed, however, prices rallied and yonn„' well hred ewes and well lambs brought figures about equal ti> last year. The following is a detailed account of the lots sold:—
