The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report under dntb : (Jiiristchuiwui, January 14.—Everything of late has pointed to there being a keen inquiry for stores, and that such was the case yesterday was very patent, even before the salo started, judging by tiiose who formed the attendance. An entry of about 4000 was presented to them, and with spirited competition everything win cleared at very siitisfact >ry prices to vendors. Tlio quality win very mixed, and, as a whole, not of the best. Those lit for export met good competition from shippers and made full valuos ; others also brought fair prices. Wβ sold at 8s lid to 10s lid.— Fat sheep : Resnondinß to the improved tone of last weeks market, a heavy supply was sent in. Of these a fair proportion were suitable for export as tirst-clnss mutton ; merino wethevs, principally of poor quality, and dry crossbred ewes comprised tlia balance. As in the case of lambs, buyers for export were to the fore for anything prime, and these made very full prices as cumpared with London values, best crossbred wethers and maiden owes bringing 13* fid to lsis (id, medium do. 12s to 13s, merino wethers (is to 10a lid, crossbred owes 0* (ii to 14s 4d, the latter price, of conrsm, being for exceptionally good weight and quality.—Fat cattle :Wβ cannnt report any improvement on ln«t week s values in the beef market.
