SCHOLARSHIP EXAMINATIONS.

The following are the results of tho senior scholarships :— James P. N. Whjxelaw, Auckland College and Grammar School, 2SGB marks : Florrie Robertson, Thames High School. 2778 marks : Frances Auckland College ami Grammar bcnonl, 2G31 marks; Nellie Stewart. Ponso.ihy College, 2G26 marks. In the junior scholarships the examiners iu their report stated that they were well pleased with the work 'lone They consider many of the candidates' reflect the highest credit on their teachers, but they would however, like to seo more neatness displayed in many of the papers. Fifty-five candidates succeeded in securing a pass in each subject but nine of these wero disqualified by the regulation which required fifty per cent, of the maximum number of marks obtainable in the whole examination, thus leaving forty-six candidates eligible for scholarships to be awarded. The scholarships were awarded as follows :-Class A. open to pupils in any public primary school, 1) W. G Clarke. Onehunga, 483 marks (maximum GSO); (2). Herbert Phillipson, Onehunga, 4G7; (3). May Robertson, Kauera-nga, 4G7; (4). Ethel Davis, Newton East, 455; (5). Chas. MeIntosh, Epsom, 145. Class B open to pupils attending schools above 300 average. (!l) Clara Fenwick, Mount Eden, 422 ; (11) Cecil Battely, Newton East, 418. Class C : Open to pupils attending schools of from 100 to 200 average; (8) Marguereta Pickmere, 428; (10) Thos. Warren, Avondale, 418. Class D : Open to pupils attending schools under 100 average ; (0) Ethel Mclntosh, Epson, 442; (2) Emma Wallace, Pupatoitui, 433. Ten scholarships only were offered but eleven candidates having qualified it was agreed to award eleven scholarships, tho holder of one of the junior scholarships having gained a senior scholarship. Among the candidates who gained certificates of proficiency were Marearet Elliott, Hamilton West, 37G ; Lucy Dodd, Tamahere and Onehunga, 376.
