Friday.—(Befoie Captain Jackson, R M). Otaheta v. S. Coombks.--The defendant plei.ded guilty to using insulting language to the plaintiff, who is a Ma:>ri woman. Mr R. W. Dyer, who appeared for the plaintiff, said the facts of the case were, that on the 12th January the plaintiff wr.s driving along Grey-street, Hamilton K.ist, in a buggy with a roan horse, when accused came out and stopped her, and used insulting language, saying the horse belonged to him, and ordered her to get out of the buggy. She demurred, but eventually got out, and the defendant got in the buggy and drove away. The plaintiff then went to see Mr Quick about the matter. On returning, they found Coombes by the Royal Hotel with the buggy and horse. He had in the meantime found out that tha horse did not belong to him. Mr Dyer

further added that the plaintiff was very much terrified by the action of the defendant, and he asked that due punishment be inflictsd. Constable Murray, in reply

to the court, said he could say nothing in the prisoner's favour. The defendant was fined £3 and costs £2 Ba, and was allowed one week to pay it, or in default one month's imprisonment with hard labour. CORBOT AND COBOLO. —P. Corboy charged Cobolo with assaulting him on January Ist, by striking him on the head with an axehandle. Mr Hav appeared for the plaintiff and Mr O'Neill for the defendant, De-

fendant pleaded not guilty. Evidence was given by plaintiff and his son as to the asaault Mr Crawford was also called ai a witness. The R.M. found the charge proved and fined th; defendant 10a and costs £1 los 6(1, or in default seven days with hard labour.

S. Teas v. S. Thomas.—Claim £2 5* for sheep worried by a dog. Mr R. W. Dyer appeared for the plaintiff and Mr Hay for the defendant, who pleaded not guilty. The only evidence taken was that of the plaintiff, and the Court then adjourned until next Court day,
