CHRISTCHURCH LIVE STOCK MARKETS. Christchurch, January B.—Store.Sheep : A somewhat unexpected impetus has been given to trade in this class of stock, by the bast rain Canterbury has experienced for years pnst. which foil between Saturday and Tuesday last. A magnificent turnip crop and nn abundance of stubble feed nnd autumn gr;>*.s should be the result. Tho outlook is certainly a demand for sheep far in excess of tho supply. Yesterday's yard of nbont 3000 stoies wore mainly two and four-tooth crossbred* in useful lines. A few outside buyers were present and maJe ompatition keen, compared with lato markets, and Li very satisfactory clearance re resulted, twn-tootha bringing 10s to 10-i 3d ; f mr-toothj lln 0d and 13s for a line of extra large framod and pood conditioned sheep. Forward merino wethers brought hi i)d, and cr.isabrfid ewee and litmbe, in tho wool, 12e to l?s 7d.—Fat Lamhi : Atout au average aupply was penned ; smaller, no doubt, than it would have beau but for yesterday's rough weather. The quality w.ib hetter than usual. Exporters were keen on anything fit for the factory, and competition between them and the trade forced values to fall rates. We sold at 8h 4d to 123.—Fat Sheep : After yesterday s r.mgh weather and the improved outlook for feed, » heavy entry was not expected. The yards, however, were moderately well filled, and included a good proportion of good quality. The demand for export was better than at any market since the season beean, consequently values forfir->t-clans quality showed an improvement. Wo soli 1 woolly stragglers, at Bs, and crossbred ewes at 8s 3d; crossbred weathers, from 11s 9J to 13< Id, and crossbred ewes at 10s lid to 11s 9d.—Fat Cattle: Another large market produced a very irregular wile. On the whole, however, a slight improvement has to be noted, and in this our stock par-*;cip-ttod. We sold steers at £5 17s 6d to £ti 15», and heifers at £5 to £G 10s. Best bjef made 16s (id to 19a per 1001b.—Store and Dairy Cattle: A small entry wat, well treated by buyers, and a distinct improvement is noticable in the demand for dairy stock.— Pigs : An unimportant market as lvgards numbers, with the demand brisk for good stores and porkers.
