WHOLESALE PREMISES, HIBH-STREET, MACHINERY PREMISES, COBUR6-STREET. BY SPECIAL APPOINTMENT, SIR ANDREW CLARK, L.L.D., F.K.S., F.K.C.P. (PHYSICIAN IN ORDINARY TO THE QUEEN, 1881.) LECTURE ON TEA To tlie Students of tlie London Hospital. (Extract froji the Pall Mall Budget.) " Tea to be useful, should be first of all black China Tea, Tlie Indian Tea which is being cultivated has become so powerful in its effects upon the nervous system that a cup of it taken early in the morning, as many people do, so disorders the nervous system, that those who take it actually get into a state of tea intoxication, and it produces a form ol nerve disturbance which is most painful to witness.'' Although we are the largest dealers in Indian and Ceylon Teas in the Colonics, we have always strongly advised tlie public to drink our Blended Teas in preference to Indian or Ceylon alone. Vv o maintain they are too sickly for 90 per cent, of the tea drinking public ; and in England, where such largo quantities are shipped, over 80 per cent, are used for Blending with China Teas, which are undoubtedly as Pure as Tndian and Ceylon, and far more refreshing when properly Blended. Many inexperienced firms push Indian and Ceylon on the public because it is beyond them to produce a regular, true blend, find the profit is larger, for cheap common Indians give out a strong, coarse liquor, without any quality, and make people, for a time, fancy they are getting a bargain, till they find out, to their cost, that SIR A. CLARK is right. The leading medical men in England are condemning the use of Indian and Ceylon Tea alone, and the above extract from Sir A. Clark's Lecture must convince all that a taste for Indians, which has to be acquired by force at first, is a serious and dangerous thing. We are publishing the above extract for the benefit of those that have not seen it, and to support what we have always maintained. This is against our own interests, for the profit on these Teas is equal, if not more, than that on other kinds. j THE "CO-OPERATIVE ~ S' YSTEM which insures mutual help and identity of interests, has met with phenomenal success wherever it has been applied to any object. In the United Kingdom some seven millions of people—or a Fifth of the Whole Population—eDjoy the benefits arising from membership of over a thousand Co-operative Societies, thus saving all middlemen's profits, and the chief Wholesale " Co-operative Society there holds invested capital of over £11,000,000, and the 1 annual trade turnover exceeds £25,000,000. This success is owing to the fact S that the investor sees not only a fair commercial return on his investment, but a proprietary division of profits, which he would not receive from any other , organisation. It has been left to Australia to apply this grand principle to IRRIGATION, and the Co-operative Irrigation and Mercantile Society of Australia, Limited (who ! have already secured three Irrigation Colonies, which are partially settled and planted), are negotiating for other large areas of many thousands of acres, each of virgin land, specially adapted for fruit, poultry, dairy, and general agricultural farming; to be followed at an early date by application to the respective Australian 1 Governments concerned for Government concessions from time to time of lands, as the Society's resources admit of colonising same. COLONIES partially populated, awaiting the small resident or non-resident capitalist, th employed worker or the man whose sole capital is his labour. The Board o Management comprises amongst its members some of the best and most favourably--1 known men in Australia. THE CO-OPERATIVE IRRIGATION AND MERCANTILE SOCIETY OF AUSTRALIA, LIMITED. !
