ROAD BOARD MEETINGS.

TAOTAOROA BOARD. Thk above Board met a 1: Can.bi idge on S iturday at It a.m. Present: Messrs S. Seddon (chairman), H. li. Bronskdl and H. J. Turner.—The minutes of the last meeting, held ii: November, were read and confirmed. County Mattkks.— Several member' spoke about the water-trough on the Gorton road being empty, ami the clerk was instructed to write Caotin Ba ; l?y, the comity membeu for the riding, urging upon him the necessitv of its being repaired.— I The members thought the pipe leading to the trough should be lengthened a'l 1 a receiving box be placed near the spring.—The clerk was also to direct the attention of Captain Bailey to the bad stito of the, ford at the foot of Brace's I till, and ask to have the approaches made better. Trout. —Several letters that had reference tho introduction of trout into the Taotaoroa district were lead. They were from MrW.l'. Bnckhuul, M.U.R., (a member of this Board) and Mr Cheeseman, of tho Acclimatis; ition Society. The latter stated that tile society were not prepared to deliver live fish in the .summer months, the transit generally proving fatal in hot weather; but if the Board would make a further application ill April they would probably have some granted to them. Mr Cheeseman finthor stated a man would be tiking trout t-i Lichfield in the autumn, and could bring some tor Taotaoroa at the same time ; however, it would be necessary that the Board should have tho district cleared of shag as far as possible, as they were very destructive to trout fry.—Mr Brnnskill said he should bo glad to fetch the fish from Mangawhara station, and see that they were safely introduced into the Karapiro and other streams. He felt cure trout would breed and do well in the rocky creeks that abounded in the district, and he trusted the inhabitants would endeavour to preserve tho fish until the streams were well and permanently stocked.—Mr Bucltluid was thanked for the very prompt maimer in which he had dealt with the question. Accounts.—Only one account was presented, viz., six months' interest on loan, £t 10s Id, which was duly passed for payment. Whitehall Road.—Mr Brunskill said a small portion of this road was not on the surveyed track. As that portini was now in a bad state, he thought it an opportune time to make the road in its proper place.— It was resolved to do tho work.

Puketutu Road.—The repairs authorised to be done on this road many months ago have not yet received attention in consequence of the surfaceman, who is also employed by the county council, being too busy.—The Chairman said a man who was used to road work would shortly he at liberty, ond he thonp,ht the Board would do well to employ him.—lt was resolved not to wait any longer for the surfaceman, but to employ other labour if such could be obtained.

Roads.—lt was resolved to have the roads thoroughly overhauled before the winter set in ; the watertables and drain pipes cleaned so that the water can get away freely.—This was all the business. CASIIUDGE ROAD BOARD.

The above Board met at Cambridge, on Saturday, at 2.30 p.m. Present: Messrs Forrest (chairman), Taylor, Pickering and Paton. The minutes of the previous meeting, hold October 17th, were read and confirmed. Finance.—The Board had a credit balance at date of £9118s Bd. The Hospital and Chauitable Aid Contribution.—'The chairman said this matter had been deferred for aever.il months and they must now decide whether they would pay the money out of their funds, or if the County Conned should strike a rate for the purpose. Personally he objected to pay the money nut of their Road Hoard funds as it was contrary to law, and he had been warned by a ratepayer that if the money was so paid, tho attention of the Audit Department would lie called to the illegality oF the proceeding. Mi-Taylor was afraid if tho county once struck a rate they would never discontinue doing so. The Clerk: Kever! After considerable discussion it was decided the chairman should ask the Council to defer striking a rate till April, so that the one expense should cover the two levies. The amount now dne is £81 lis Hid, and upon this amount the Board will have to pay interest, Fencourt Koaii—Mr Taylor called rttention to the bad state of a narrow bridge upon this road. He was authorised to have a hand rail erected and other necessary repairs executed. Bhambi.ks.— On the motion of Mr Pickering, it was resolved to have the brambles on the main road, near Hautapu corner, era-dicat-Mt. # Accounts. —The following accounts woro nnssed for payment :~V. «T.
