WELLINGTON ELECTION
RETURN OP MR MCLEAN,
(BY TELKORAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION'.) Wellington, Last Nighf. | The election excitement has not proceeded beyond a little noisy jocularity. At the central booth, tho voting up 5o mid-day wa3 slower than was expected, not more than 700 votes being recorded. The bulk of the pollers this morning were Mr lull's people ; a fact which has in ide some of his supporters extremely confident. Very little business was done in town today, the attention of everyone being directed towards the election. Electors weie brought from all parts of tho country, and both sides worked right up to the closing of tho poll with the greatest energy. The contest was characterised by tho friendly manner In which it was conducted, but there was a deal of good-natured chaff on bnth sides. The poll will not be declared before!) o'clock.
0.20 p.m. Mr McLean has been returned by a majority of 144.
