ALEXANDRA.

PlOKic.—The school children's annual picnic, which took place last week in the grounds of the Messrs Stokes, Puniu junction, was a very pleasant one, but the attendance was far from beiug so numerous as heretofore. The weather, which had a threatening appearance in the early part of the day, no doubt kept many away. However, the weather turned out favourable for out-door sports, and ths children fully enjoyed the various game 3, races, etc., provided for their amusement, under the active superintendence of Messrs Geo. Miles, Ueo. Berry and T. Finch. Provisions of all descriptions were plentiful, and gracefully dispensed to all-comers by the Indies of the settlement and their friends. A dance in the Public Hall, which was kept up till an early hour the following morning, concluded the annual gathering. The Holidays.— The picuic concludes our annual Christinas and New Year dissipation, and all in the district, appear to have thoroughly enjoyed themselves at the various social gatherings whioh have been held for amusement and festivity. Good cheer has beon the order of the day, in which all have partici Dated. Roast beef and plum pudding at Christmas in every family; such beef, too, as our enterprising butcher, Mr Walter James, supplied us wjjSh would have had the place of honour in,a \yesf; End, London, shop, our Christmjii biillnclc weighing only five pounds slini't of UOQlb. weight, and the New Year one was nothing inferior, the quality bejng of the very best, und I for one gratefully return thanks.
