N.Z. SETTLERS' LEAGUE.
We are in receipt of a circular emanating from the northern portion of the province of Auckland, recommending the combining of the settlers in defence of their interests. We have not heard of any public movement yet, but steps are, we understand, being taken to enlist the sympathies of those in whose interests the league is to be formed, The following is the wording of the circular defining the objects of the league : For promoting the interests of agriculturalist*, pastoralist«, and orchardists politically, commercially and socially. Politically, by securing due repiesentation in Parliament, by registration of electors, selection and support of candidate?, and by maintaining a con»tant and careful watch on all measures affecting the special interests of the memoera. Commercially, by ascertaining for the benefit of members information as to the foreign and local market*, and tuking such steps as mav be deemed deai.-able for facili tating any trade which may present possibilities of improving the opportunities of members j by lightening the local markets by the extension of the foreign. Socially, by the mutual interchange of ideas, and the forwarding of education in remote districts. .... , The league to consist of branches, ol members paying a minimum subscription of sixpence per month (half for local and half for geneal purposes), who shall elect their president and secretary and trea_ Burer; Council (central) on which eact branch will be represented by its president or such other member of the league as 1 may appoint, the council to elect its preai dent and general secretary and treasurer Standing Committee (central) of . . . members appointed by the council to watci over the interests of the league, and advist and assist the general secretary and trea sorer. _ K.
