At a Cabinet meeting to day, Mr Munro (Premier) ace-pted the Agent-General-hip, and Mr Shiels succeeds Mr Munro as ' remier. Sir F. T. Sargood and the Hons. Davis, Ham, and Fraser. members of the Ministry in the Council, resign with Mr Munro. as they oppose tbe one-man-one-vote principle, which is to be the chief plank iu the platform of the reconstructed Ministry at the general election. Brisbane, January 12 A telegram announces that Captain Carpenter, of the barque Costa Rica, was arrested at Ternate, iu the Malay Archipelago by the Dutch authorities, for alleged piracy in stripping a wrecked junk. After some difficulty the British Consul at Batavia secured his release. Three fine sapphires have been discovered near Rockhampton. One of them.is the finest found in Anstralia It weighs 126 carats, and is valned at £300. Hobart January 12.
