RAGLAN.

Athletic Club.—Oμ Saturday afternoon a meeting of thuse interested in the formation of an athletic association took place in the library, Raglan. The following officers were appointed :—Mr A. Bay, hon. secretary ; Mr J. Rendell, treasurer. A strong committee was formed, anri twenty-fo'ir members were enrolled. Tho annual subscription was fixed iit 2s 6d. In the evening the committee held their first meeting, and it is in contemplation to hold the first public competition on S. Patrick's Day.

Working Picnic. —On Monday ne.\t, January 11th, Mr T. B. Hill, who has initiated the work, and the settlers in the district intend to proceed to the Bridal Falls, Te Mata, for the purpose of clearing the road through the bush, so that the road iray bo made clear that both vehicles and horses can be taken with ease right up to these romantic and beautiful falls, which can then be reached without trouble by all visitors to Raglan.

The Weather. —Since Snnday the weather has bivken, and early on Monday moroing very heavy rain descended, and rain has continued up to this (Tuesday-) morning, and tho weather still seems unsettled. Largo quantities of oaten hay were fortunately secured before the storm, but khere are still iu many sottlerV paddocks oats yet unearned. The rain has certainly been beneficial t> crass, maize, and other growing crops. Tho ground had got very dry and hard, and springs and watercourses had become dried up in many parts.
