When Mr Buckland lowered the flag Fishmonger, Sentinel, and T'untny moved olf at tho head of the column, but ere they had travelled many yards Hopeful Kat" was in front, only to yield the lend almost immediately to Dan who was lirst over the brush hurdle, with H'ipefu! Kate second, and Yardman third, Gmd Day in la t place. Ii) this order they ran through the trees at the base of tho hill near the cutting, but Hopeful Kate was again leading at the top of the hill, where she had two lengths tho best of Fishmonger, uffc vr whom came Yardman and Sentinel. At the Kt»rn> wall enclosing the course proper Good Day fell, throwing Dixon he-ivily, Hopeful Kate crossed the race track with no material lead of Fishmonger, and the pa'i , drew up together to the water jump in front of the stand, Chance, tlnv.e lengths off, third, and Dan, Sentinel, Yardman, and Tommy next, and The Colonel last. Fishmonger destroyed his prospects by baulking at this jump, and thus left Hopeful Kate in undisputed possession of tho lead until when travelling al«ng the back of the course she was joined by Chanc", who was two leneths in front as they ran to the cutting ; D.m third, after a long gap, and then Tonicity, Y.adman, and The Colonel, with Fishmonger, who had been persuaded nver the water j'linp, lant. The running was mado by Hopeful Ka'e ana Chance until Chance bungled at the old water jump, and Hopeful Kate fell, so that, though McMinatnin wa* soon iu tho saddle again, the WnnlbiMker mare had lost her place. Sentinel, who was jumping admirably, had gone on with a nomma;Hing lead, and with Tho Colouel as his nearest follower, ten lengths away. Mr Hewitt's horse was first to c'o.ir the fences at the top of the hill ; but here another mishap occurred, fur The Colonel fell, Rn° being thrown heavily. Tommy, thus left second, baulked at the next post and rail hurdle ; and as Hopeful Kate was too far away to bo dangerous, Sentinel had only to canter home to win, a furlong in front of Hopeful Kite, while Tommy, persuaded over the fence cm the hill, came on and gained third place, no others finishing.
