THE "PLANET JR." IMPLEMENTS
Mlt K. A. S \Nio;tD, 1 lie represantati'.e of the Amd'H'ao firm who manufacture the above implement-, gave an exhibition ol tiie uses and adv Ullages of the "I'iauio Jr." go'ilen and farm implements at Cam nridgn 011 Tuesday, and alt lough I h<attend.iiice was not 'urge, the trails were "I 80 sucecssful a ualure thit every one present admitted the toob were the b-'st of <!i" kind that had yet been exhibited in W.iikato. The local agent, Mr T. Wells, not knowing what was required, find arranged that the implements should be shown on the ground next the old printing office, and opposite Mr .McNicol's sale yard. This grou"d has been covered with twitch enss for many years, and after a spell of dry weather, such as we have lately expei ieuci d was very hard. But Mr Sanford was 11,t daunted by that difficulty; he fitted up the combined drill, wheel-hoe, &a, att iched a couple of hoes and proceeded to cut the tnvf, which he then rolled up, and we may say he did the work much faster and iu a better manner than we have ever before witnessed. He then d-Hachedthe hoes and turned up the ground with cultivators and plough, alter which be put 011 the lakes, mil when tliey had been applied the ground was perfectly free from the roots of
'ho twitch, and was as linn as any so„d tied need be, Ho then charged the seed drill with bran, and demonstrated the perfect manner in which seeds can ne sown with it, I'his machine id about as near perfoction 11s it is possible to make it; it distributes thu -.eed evenly and at a uniform depth, cover* tup with finely pulv>ri-od soil, which is then pressed with a small x' -11 r. In about 'wenly minutes Mr Sanford diverted a plot of twitch-grassland into a well civti-vat-d g.rden, all the work having been lone by the one machine, with a ch uige of "ols. A movn was then m ide to Air Well's *,ii'den, wln-re the single and double wheel 'ines were worked. The astonishing amount if work done in a few minutes iiy these machines astonished every one. Strawberry bids and rows of parsnips were cleaned, oloughed, cultivated, raked and enr:hed up, and the earth taken away again, without the slightest injury to the plan's, much 1,1 the astonishment of the oii-lookers. Tho instruments we have mentioned are only for use io gardens nr comparatively small pi ts of ground, but for tho f .rm the "Pianet Jr" horse line and cultivator .vill do all that the before inuutioned midlines can accomplish— except the drilling—and n. has several unirjuo combinations 111 addition. One gentleman who was present hi.ro testimony as to the value of this machine. lie has worked 0110 for two years and finds it invaluable for the farm and the ! orchard. We predict that, carrots will bo grown ti a much larger t-xtoit for winter feed when the farmers hue tri'd this implement, for the crop can be cleaned so easily with it, while with hand ab-mr it is a costly and labnnrions task. We strongly recommend our readers to inspect tho " Planet Jr " implements.
Yesterday a similar exhibition to that described above was carried out in Mr George Leaver's garden, Hamilton, before seven! pi ictical gardeners and agriculturists. The numerous combinations, arram/' d with so light- and easily managed a machine, elicited tliu most favourable comments from the onlookers, anil tile ease, wirh which every inch of ground could be moved was certainly remarkable. To anyone with any _ extant of garden ground tho machine, will be found a wonderful labour saver, and much I ighteiu'nrlt than digging or hoeing. There is also another great advantage with these machines, eiery bolt and ev.>ry knife and attachment is made to guugo so that when v.'-.ru aiiy portion can be replaced without trouble of titti'iir. All the marl ines are manufactured of the best, oil t3mpered Steele and when showing the Horso hoe the exhibitor otl'ered to set the machine deep enough to withstand tho full strength of a horse and he guaranteed that no portion of Iho machine would give way or bond. Mr Snnford s visit will wc feel suro extend tho use of these machine- as five minutes' demonstration at the hands of an expert will do more t 1 exulaiu the varied w->vk to which they niav hi 1 applied than a whole volume of written ins'ructions.
