Several good songs were pleasautily rendered during the ovening, and refreshments tin a most libei'.il scalo were served during tho intervals of the dancing which was kept up to tho small hours, when tho company on parting e.\ proved warm thanks to their entertainers for tho agreeable evening they hud provided. A woelc later a second gathering tools placo for tho purpose of malting a presentation to Mr anil Mrs Pain as a small token of the respect they wore hold iu. Miss Alice Calder mi presenting the writing desk to Mr Pain r.'.al the following address;: — Dear Mr and Mrs Pain,—At tho request of my follow school children, it has became my pleasant iluty to thank you for the many acts of kindness receiv ed at your hands. We part from you with regret. As a small token of our regard and esteem, we ask you to accept of this prosent, tha value of which owing to our limited means does not fairly represent our good wishes, We have only further to add that wo wish you and your family every blessing in this lifo and iu that which is to come. Mrs Pain received a handsome cruet aUtid presented by Miss Xelly liiggiuson. Mr Pain, in a. most, feeling manner, returned thanks, for the very handsome present's received by himseir and Mrs Pain. Ho said it was quite unexpected, and I hat iu after years they would pitas',mtly remind him and his wife of tho many kind friends tliey were leaving at Whatawhata. — (Occasional Gorrespon* dent).
