RAGLAN.
District School Sports.— The annual celbbration in connection v-'ilh the school took place on Friday afternoon, Decombei ISth. A considerable sum of money ha t been collected by the scholars and subscribed to by various kind friends. Th» sports took piaca in Q jeoii-etnwt. Sir T. B. Hill acted as jndgy, Air Rendell trea surer, and Mr Vernon st irtjr. Afr.er the termination of the vavous races, which were all very well coiit-i.-t-i f, the children gathered in the school, where tables containing a variety of good tilings wen spread out, which had been kindly pro. vidi'.d by their teachers, Mr La Trobe a-til his wife. Tho youngsters evidently enjoyed themselves, and did justice as boys and girls ran on such occasions. Afcnvards Mr La Trobe. with his usual liuera ity, entertained the many friends who assembled to witness the sports. The t ibles having been cleared and seat-t arranged, the company, with the children, assembled inßide the buildiug to view the various scenes thr two upon tho wall by the niaeic lantern, Mr L* Trobe having prucu- cl several new series of slides whilst in Eot:land. " Whiitington and hi 3 Cat" and " Gulliver's Travels " were the lirst shown, afterwards several views of a local nature. At this stage Master Frank Bulford came forward and presented their estimable teacher, Mr La Trobe, with a clock, which ho had teen requested to give to hiin. Mr La Trnbo, in feeling term', thanked them for vet atiot'ter token of their kind regard for him. He had felt very much tho kind way they ha I received him, and the welcome they had gi :en i t him on his return from England, and now he hal ti thank tlioni, which he most sincerely did, for their ki idness.
