Mr Alex. Aitken's Market Report for the week ending December 19.—The past week tins been a particularly heavy one, three sales of produce, poultry, and fruit hold. At all there was a large quantity put through, A special sale of fruit, held on Thursday, was attended with keen competition. The supplies during the week have been heavy in all lines. Poultry : The supply has been the largest yet received, and tho sale in this department lasted six hours on Friday, when first-class fowls realised from ]s 4d to Is 9d ; ordinary, Is 3d to Is Dd ; poor and old lots, la to Is 2d ; roosters in condition, Is lOd to 2.-. !Jd ; ducks, heavy, Is od to Is 7d ; small, Is to la 3d ; geese, 2s to 4s Id ; turkeys, heavy gobblers, Gs to lis 'Jd each ; ordinary, 4s to 5a ; poor and small, 2s 3d to3s lid ; hens, Is Od to Is Gd, according to condition ; pigeons, i)d to Is Id ; canaries, 2a 3d to ss. Figa penned in large quantity, demand very limited at present, Berkshire and Yorkshire of best breeds, from 12s to 20s ; ordinary good, Gs Gd to 8s ; other lots, 3a Gd to 5a ; very inferior, down to 2a each. In produce thero has boen a heavy supply. Shepherds have realised from 20s to 40s per ton. Kidneys have gone off freely. Prime samples, 3a to 4s ; poor lots, 2a to 2s Gd ; Early Rose, Is !)d to 2a Gd ; Hobarts, 2s Gd to 3s Gd ; maize sold in fair quantity at 2a 3.1 ; oats, local, Is 8d to Is lOd ; Southern, 2s 3d to 2a 4d ; bran and sharps, 4s Gd ; wheat, 4a Gd ; onions in good demand, local, id to Id ; Norfolk Island, ; }d to .Jd per lb ; green peas, 4d to 3d ; rhubarb, 2s lid to 4s Gd. Butter : Fresh has been in demand beyond supply at Gd to GJd; poor and inferior lots, 5d to y.Jd ; keg butter still in strong demand at late values. Eggs have been in good demaud, and all guaranteed lots realised from la to Is 3d; upwards of 500 dozen to hand sold without guarantee at from od to <Jd per dozen. Bacon : With this line the market is fairly glutted, and none but really choice lots selling, at from od to Gd ; about one ton of poor lots moving very slowly at 2d to 4d. Hams: All prime guaranteed lots have sold at Sd, while others realised from 3d to Gd at auction. Honey is plentiful and quiet; sections, 3d to 3.Sii; tinned, 2Jd tii 3d. Frui-or all kinds to hand in very quantities ; all but gooseberries sold at high prices. Plums sold at to s.[d ; lemons, good, 2s to 2s 7d per dozen, demand unlimited ; very small, Is od to Is Ud per dooon. Cherries, very plentiful at from to 4i'd per lb. Peaches, largo ■ supply of Brigg s Red .vl.iy, winch sold under keen competition at from 10d to Is Gd per dozen ; small hard lot>, 2j.j to G.l. Grapes were in good supply and demand, and realised trom la rid t ■ 2a per lb, at which price upwards uf 50 boxes were sold on Friday. Tomatoes, ih l i.o Gd per lb. Gooseberries : About six tons to hand on Friday ; all lots were over ripe, and must lots running; in consequence of the jam factories being filled for this season, prices were low, viz,, • Id to 2d, while a few cases of extra large dry realised up to 2.£.l ; tha average value of good lots might be quoted at ljd, while wet lota might bo quoted at Id to l£d.
