EARTHQUAKE.
(BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington , , Last Night. A VKitv lively «hock of earthquake was felt at 4.40 ii.ni. The first shock was succeeded by another much worse, which startled people nnt of their beds, but so far as can bs ascertained, nn damage is yet reported. The quake whs the severest for some years, Woodvillc, Ma.-I.erton, Fieldinpr, and other pkcen on the \Vo>t Co.vt also report a severe shock, but no damage, except some chimneys thrown down at Alfredton. NAriBU, Last Nieht. A sharp shock of earthquake was felt at 4.35 this morniup. Wanganui, Laat Night. A protracted earth tremor was felt at 1.40 thi.s morning. '
