TROUT IN WAIKATO.

Foil some years past the Auckland Acclimatisation Society during the propor season have, through their curator, Mr CliiTe, regularly liberated various kinds of trout in the streams at the head of the Thames and Wuipa Valleys. It will be extremely gratifying to the society to learn that their efforts have been crowned with success as the streams in the vicinity of Oxford are now known to abound with fish and to lovers of the gentle art this knowledge will add one of the greatest charms to country life in this portion of New Zealand. It has lately come to our knowledge that about a month ago a gentleman ou a visit to Oxford heard of fish being seen in fhe stream near that township, and having procurod a somewhat primitive sot of tackle, he proceeded to investigate the matter, and was rewarded fir hiR trouble, as in less than an hour he hooked four good fish, landing two, one of them weighing two pound-i and tho other a pound and a half. A few days since the same gentleman again visited the stream, and being better prepared he succeeded in landing eight good fish. Now that the question of good fishing being procurable in this part of the colony ha* been settled, it should add materially to the list _of visitors, who will now have a further inducement to visit Rotorua, ha'ting hv the way for a few davs' trout fishing at Oxford.
