SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

Vksi'kkday forenoon a very serious accident occurred to Mr Wni. McPhereon, olilo-t eon of the late MrH. I'. McPherson, wlin was .in old resident m Hamilton. Mr McPlierson was engaged on a bushfalling contract by Mr F. \V. Littlewood, on the Si'w Zealand Land Company 9 Woodlands Kstute, at Mangawhara. About 11 a.m. yesterday he was engaged in falling a tree which had a very heavy lean, and had put in a belly scarf of about three inches deep ; thon, going round to the back scarf where he had only given two or three blows, the tree split up, and in falling crushed him as he was standing near the stump. When picked up the tree was lying across his loins, there being a deep gash in his head. Ho win at once extricated by his mates, and arrangements made to take him to. the Waikato Hospital. This was a matter of considerable difficulty, as he had to be carried for a distance of over 100 chains down a drain, the fallen bush on either sidn making it impossible to get him out any other way. A sprinf, cart wan waiting when he reached the open, and he was at once conveyed to the Hospital, where he arrived at about six o'clock. Dr. Kenny was in attendance when the young man arrived at the Hospital, and examined him to ascertain the extent of his injuries. The examination disclosed a deep cut in the head, commencing just above the left ear and extending for about five inches across his head, severe concussion of ttie brain, dislocation of the right arm, and the doctor is afraid other internal injuries, the extent of which he is at present unable to determine. McPherson was unconscious when he reached thn Hospital, but during the journey thither he was occasionally conscious for a short time. Dr. Kenny put ten stitches in the wound on the head and relieved the other injuries as far a3 lay in hie power. At present the doctor is unable to say whether the patient will recover or not, but the case is a very serious one, McPherson is a young man, about 24 years of age, unmarried, and very sober and industrious. Hβ is a member of the Hamilton Light Infantry Volunteers, in which he took an active interest.
