CIIRISTUIIURCH, Last Night. The .Supreme Court was engaged all day in the trial of the case Julia Bell v. L>. Klianaghan, in which the p'aintill', wife of a sheep-dealer at Kaikowra, claimed the value of her furniture seized hy the defendant, who had procured her signature to a sale note and cheijuo, which she stated she had signed without knowing, and that she was not thinking the document affected her. Defendant pleaded that the plaintiff knew what she signed as she was aware that if she did not help her husband out of a difficulty he would have been arrested for obtaining money under false pretences. One additional witness on either side was examined, viz.. the p'.aintilFs husband and Shanaghan's olkce boy. The case hinged on whether the plaintiff knew the contents of the document she signed, but the plaintiff's counsel withdrew the allegations of fraud, and the Judge directed the jury to return a verdict for the value of the goods converted, and reasonable damages for the inconvenience caused, leaving the point of law to be argued by counsel. The jury brought in a vcrdict for £200, value of tho goods seized, and £50 dumagee.
