Thk Waikato Times.—After the Ist of next month the improved express railway and caaching service will bring Hamilton within one day's reach of Rotorua, thus Tub Waikato Timks will reach here cm the earns day as published.
Sheep Inspkciou.—Mr Sutton, shoep inspector, left here this morning for Maketu where he will meet Mr Hargreaves, who is now located in the B:iy of Plenty, and both of them will proceed thence to Opotiki. Burui.auy.— A young man named Victor Hugo was arrested at Atinmari, by Constable Berriman for hous? breaking, and charged with the offence yesterday before Dr. Cinders and C. Malfroy, J.P.s. The prisoner who hails from Duuedin, wa.s ou the wallubi from Napier, and when passing RotongaiV. settlement, near Taupo, went in to it and finding a veritable Goldsmith's Deserted Village proceodedto make himself acquainted with the treasures, stealing £8 in cash besides a number of valuable greenstones, and jewellery. Four days afterwards, the 15th iust., the natives where surprised to find on their return that their houses had been plundered, and hastenod to give information to tho police with the result that Constabio Berriman made a clever capture, securing his man in bed at Atiamuri, -u' miles from Taupo, four hours after notice was given of tho affair. All the greenstones and jawcllery, besides nearly £5, was recovered. The prisoner was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Information has boon received since his committal that he sold at Taupo a stolen Run, the propnrty of a native. PouNUKKEPKit.—There is considerable delay in gazetting the appointment of Mr F. C. Clarke an poundkeeper, the result is that this gentleman is kept busy driving cattle outside tho township boundary instead of running 'cm into the pound. Town- Improvements :— The building trade is still keeping brisk. Mr Samson, baker, is having alterations made to hU bakery, and Messrs O'Keufe and FiUftaruld have received instructions to put additional rooms to Mr T. Wrigley's store for dwelling purposes. At Whakarewarewa it is contemplated to build a fourteen stall stable and add sixteen rooms to the Geyzer Hotel. A change is also Rpoken of as likely to take place in the management of thin establishment.
Valedictory.—Mr and Mrs G. Croaby left here on Monday via Tauranpa for Paeroa, where they intend t> enter into possession of the Belmont Hotel. Previous to their departure from here they were entertained at n complimentary ball on Friday last ill the l'nkeron Hall, which was filled with a larefl and respectable Ratheriujj of tho principal inhabitants of the district.
Tourist TaAinc— The tourist traffic shows signs of improvement. There have beeneeveral large arrivals, although nothinp; eteady has yet set in.
