ROTORUA.
COACHINO.—If changes are lightsome—a statement that has long become a proverb— Rotorna need feur no rival in all that pertains to gaiety. The changes that have taken place here of late in business might appropriately lie termed a grand transformation scone. Although now too late in the day to recapitulate all the alterations that have occm red within a comparatively brief period, still I am justitied in drawing attention to the latest event as being of more than usual interest for several reasons, I refer to tho. propose 1 new line of coaches to run between Okoroire and Rotor!*, No reasonable person has any grand to complain against the admirable coach service as carried out bv -Mr W. K. Carter, yet this gentleman, after having bought tho goodwill and plant of Mr (J. Crosby's line, is threatened with fresh opposition now. Although not disputing the right of any individual or syndicate to embark in any calling when and wheresoever he or they choose, still there is a limit to all things, and I think no one would grudge Mr W, K. Carter the monopoly nf the coaching for this season, as another year will probably see tho railway extended to within a few miles of Rotorna, so that coaching will not then be tho important means of transit that it is to-day, and those who have invested largely in s'lviceable coaching plant to meet the present requirenier.ts of the tourist trallic are deserving of every support. No place in th-i colony has such an excellent coach service as is to be found at Rotorna. The (Slivers in all instances are noted for their carefulness, an is evident from the inrnunity which we eoj iv from accidents. (BY THLBOttAI'H -OWN COttUKsI'ONIIKN r.) Knroiti't, Li-t Night, Kahthiji.'AKK.— V smart shock ofeaithquake was experienced here this morning at twenty six minutes to two o'clock, lasting about fji.-e seconds. A low rumbling nois" was heard, an I the buildings creaked. T:;e direct-on of the shock seemed to bo nor'.h-e i.-t and s aith-we-t. Reports from To Pnki and Maketu show it to have been m-'re severely felt in these places.
