A despatch has been received by the Government from the Admiralty stating that while they are nut prepaied to depart from t.hn principle of continuous and general service system, their Lordships will be willinsr to make arrangements for admis sion into the Royal Navy of man and boys of in or Xew Zealand birth on tim following lines (1.) Able or ordinary seamen to be enteied on the Australian station to fill :v vacancy as non-0 >ntinuous seruco men for six mouths' Mini in the static 11, and if after that time they are found suitable, they will he allowed to join the navy as continuous service men, and will be paid (as continuous service men) from the date of their original entry. .Men so entered will be sent to England for training in gunnery, etc., hut 'hey will afterward* be employed oil thi> Aits';• di.u> station if tlvy so desire ; (3) 1j >ys who volunteer and conn' up to the standard will be accepted and brought to England for training with thf paid-olf crews of ller Majesty's ship.', and after undergoing the ueeces<ary training they will to employed as far as possible, on the Australian station if they so desire.
