STAMP ACTS AMRXDMICXT. Under this Act a statr.p duty of one and ii-liilf per cent, is levied upon the pross tikinefof every totalizator, a full stateiQent in writinc;, showing the total amount of takings and thn particulars of such unomit, to be forw.irded to tho Colonial .Secretary within seven days after holding any race meeting. Il any club shall neglect to furnish such statement within fourtesn days, or wilfully deliver a false statement, every officer connected with the club shall be liable to a penalty of t'2o, Provision is made for assessing duty on a deed of gift. The native land duty on a lease or license of native land is abolished. Act now in force. TRUCK ACT. This Act came into force on the Ist inst., and deals with the relations existing between employer and workman. Workmen's wages to be paid in money only, but payment tnny be made by cheque if workmen freely consent to receive such cheque. Any contract in contravention of money payment of wages to be void. No contract to stipulate as to mode of spending wages. No sot off to be allowed for Roods supplied to workmen by employer. Kmployer not to have action for go')d« supplied to workman as or on account of his wages. Penalties are imposed for breaches of the Act. Act not to apply in certain case?, such as medical attendance in case of sickness and tails and implements supplied to a workman to bo used by him in his labour, and in several other instances. Act does not apply to seamen or to pers-ons employed in agricultural or pastoral pursuits. TRUSTEE ACT 1883 AMENDMENT. This Act, while giving greater latitude to trustees in certain instances, requires greater caution from them in investing trust funds, or they ronder themselves personally liable. The expression " trustee " includes the Public Trustee and an administrator. Trustee may in the manner prescribed appoint a solicitor to receive money as agent. Trustees lending trust money on mortgage must satisfy themselves as to tlie value of security by report of persons competent to value, and not lend moro than two-thirds of such estimated value. If trust money is improperly invested, trustees are liable to make good tho sum advanced in excess of the real value of the security. Statute of limitations may be pleaded by trustees, except where claim u founded on fraud. .Socuiitiow on which trust funils mav be invnv.eri are set out in the Act. The Act applies to trusts created either before or after the passing of the Act. The Act is now in force.
