HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council was held at the chambers on Tuesday evening. There were preseiit: HU Worship the Mityor (Mr Isaac Coate3, in the chair), and Crs. Parr, Reid, Sandes. B*ll, Salmon, and Scott. BandSuhetv.— Mr H. Tristim, secretary tii the Hamilton Brass Bund, nominated Mr T. Buxtiin as ourety for the band instruments in Mr McCullongh's place.—lt was decided to accept Mr IWtun as surety. Endowmrsts.— Mr T. Kiug applied to have Lots 30G and 368 West put up for lease, and he offered 5s each lot per annum for a term of 14 or 21 years.—The matter was referred to the Endowment Committee to report upon lit the next meeting. Sydnkv Sq'iaue.—The following petition, signed by G2 ratepayers, wa« presented by Cr. Reid:—" To the Mayor and Borough Councillors: We, the undersigned ratepayers, respectfully retjuest that you will re-consider your decision in roference to the removal of the Hamilton East baths, and request that the material be expended in erecting a pavilion in Sydney Square."—Cr. Rsid spoke strongly in support of using the timber not required for the sileyards for tho above purpose.— After a lnrigthy discussion in committee, Cr. R. F. Sandes moved : "That the prayer of the petition be granted, in so far as the timber in the Hamilton East baths not required or suitable for use in erecting aheep pens, etc., be sold to the Hamilton Domain Board for the purpose of erecting a pavilion on Sydney Square."—Seconded by Cr. Salmon, and carried. Works Rkpokt.—ln his monthly report the foreman of works stated that several small jobs had been attended to, and Lots 43, 44, 45 and 4G cleared of furze. Owing to the time which this job had taken he wae unable to proceed with the work on the cemetery road, but it would be taken in hand at once. He recommended that some repairs be done on Richmond St. Hill. The report was received and adopted. Accounts,—Payment of tho following accounts was authorised :—R. Waitu, £1 0s 6d ;G. Mayea, £1 10s; W. Dey, 5e Gd ; A. Bennett. 6j.
Watkr Supply,—Following tip hie remarks on this ei'bject at last meeting Cγ. Salmon moved that a committee consisting of the Mayor, and Crs. Parr, Bell, Sandea and the mover be formed to consider the advisableness of providing (or a water supply for sanitary and other purposes and report to this Council, Seconded by Cr. Parr and carried.
Baths.— Ce. Reid said that two or three persons had called on him complaining that the caretaker had refusod to provide season tiekets.and alao that he charged admission to thnse who went into the baths not t<) bathe, but to look after children. The clerk stated that the agreement with the caretaker provided for the issue of season tickets. After some little disscussion the matter dropped. This was nil the business of importance.
