MARKET REPORTS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report under date, Dd.nkdin, November 2.—Grain. —Wheat: Thero is no material alteration to note in fclia position of the market since our last report. The business passing is only to a small extent, and until, as we said last week, miller's stocks are somewhat reduced, the demand will only be fitful. Meantime, however, any sales that are being effected are on the basis of prices quoted last week, which continue Hrm ; indeed, there is very little of nny sort in first hands now for disposal. Quotations for Northern best velvet and Tuscan, 4s 10.1 to "h ; medium to pood Southern, 4s (id to 4s !ld ; inferior to medium, 3s lOd to 4s 3d (ex store, sacks weighed in, terms).—Oats : There is no animation of nny consequence pervading the market. Two steamers being on the berth for Sydney this week no doubt caused a few sales to be elfected, but at prices showing no improvement ; in fact, shippers decline to operate except at the reduced prices, and are now being supplied to a considerable extent by fresh consignments from the country, sellers preferring to accept the best otfer off truck rather than incur any store charges. Lots in store, however, are being held for the prices ruling earlier, although it is very questionable if any advance can be secured. —Potatoes : The market is still over-stocked, although there has been no increase in the deliveries lately. There is no improvement in prices, which remain at from 20-t to 80s per ton (sacks weighed in). —Dairy produce : There is no movement ot any consequence in the market. The simply of both salt and fresh butter is sufficient for requirements, price ranging from OV-l to 7!A per lb for prime salt. Cheose of good quality is now out of first hands and inquired f• ■ r : m"diinr.-size factory made is wort.', ."i 1 to r>j I, and loaf 51d to 5-V1 per lb. —Klax : A f.iir d-mand exists for all eo'ning forward properly dressed and of good order. :;t prices on the spot which sellers would do well to accept in preference to s|ij|>|,ing Home on their own account. Locally, transactions have been limited. .Millers arts not eager purchasers ftt the moment, and holders have a pood idea of the future as regards prices.—Hats are dull, sales are difficult to effect. Our quotations are unaltered ; prime milling Is 1 Oil, heavy food Is S.V<J, lung i„ (Ud to Is 7',d per iiushol, f.0.b.. sacks extra. .MKi.KoiruNU, November (ith, — Uuring tho li.ist week little change has occurred in tho wheat market, tlio loc:il millers continuing to operate very slowly. On tho other hand tlit) largo holders appear to have coma to tliu determination to reduce stocks by shipments to London. Some 1700 tons urn announced as under dispatch by berth sailiticr vessel:: for London, in which space as dead weight has been obtained on favourable terms. Whether this movement will tend to stimulate local purchases remain* to bo seen, but for the moment at all events there is no stir in tho market outside an inclination to secure small parcels up to os 7d for fair average milling. Crop prosiioets continue Rood, and in the enrly North-Western districts some of the wheat fields are in ear, but even under favourable conditions it will tako anothor six weeks boforo the heads fill out and are fit to strip. A good deal depends on the weather for the next two months; if this is fair and favourable yields should ba largo, but it is yet too early to speculate on prospers that may not be realized. In the North-eastern disSiicts the crops are somewhat backward, whilst unpleasant reports of insect-pest, locusts, and Grasshoppers are numerous. Still, allowing for all ilruvhacks, under ordinary conditions the coming harvest should bo over tho average.
