CO-OPERATION.
Is these days of labour's willingness to fly at the throat of capital And the latter'e preparedness to maim industry in any possible way it is refreshing to note the manifesto lately issued to the labour organisations by Mr W. G. Speoce. of the General Labour Union. Says Mr Spence in the opening paragraph of his manifesto :—" It is generally admitted that Co-operation is the true and only solution of the labour problem. The dream of the worker has long been the establishment of such conditions as will ensure to every person that which is his own, the pro luce of hie own industry. It has been the ambition of many true friends of humanity's highest iaterests to establish settlements of a ci.mnunal character on co-operative or socialistic lines." The manifesto goes on to recommend to all workers the aims of tho Co-operative Irrigation and Mercantile Society of Australia Limited whose head offices in Australia are at 49 Queen-street, Melbourne. The Society has already sufficient people and funds on hand to I establish ft Co-operative Irrigation Colony and kindred establishments will be made in every Australasian province as anon as practicable. In concluding Mr Spence speaks this mild prophecy that is actually on the eve of accomplishment. "It h certain."
