Wellington, Last Night. A I'iitK occurred on board the Doric lying at (Queen's wharf. Smoke was seen issuing from No. 4 hatch, and ou the hatch being opened it was found that some bales of wool, which had been taken on board during tho morning, were burning. The flames were soon extinguished, and the damage proved to be comparatively trifling.

The Post states that the action Whitalcer v. Hutchison, which arose out of statements made by the latter in his place in Parliament, has been amicably settled.

Geo. Hunt, a shunter engaged by the Wellington-Manawatu Kailwny Company, was knocked down by a carriage to-day and run over. His left arm was terribly crushed, his head cut in several places, and his body bruiied.
