LOCHIEL LINCOLN FLOCK.
FOIST ANNUAL SALE. Yesterday Mr J. McNicol inaugurated the annnal sale of pedigree stock at his residence, Lochiel, near Ohaupo. For some time past Air McNicol has notified his intention of holding an annual sale of atud and flock ahm»p, Polled Angus cattle, and homes. On this occasion stud sheep only wore offered, and in referring to these iheep wo cannot do better than give somo extracts from tho description given of the flock in a preface to the catalogue : — Tho Lochiel Lincolns aro directly descended from sheep imported from England by the late Mr Robt. Graham, these were purchased by Mr McNicol's father, as long ago as 18G(i, and the flock has been added to from time to time by selections from the flocks of the late P. Leslie, of Wartle, Messrs Joseph Newman, Reynolds, and S. T. Seddon ; with this exception no other ewes have been brought into tho flock. The rams usod havo been bred by Messrs John Grigg, J. C. Buckland, K. J. Middleton, the late Major Jackson, the late Patrick Leslie, the late James Williamson, R. H. D. Ferenaon, E. McLean, Thos. Tanner, J. B. Suttor, and S. T. Seddon, from this it will be allowed that it would be impossible to procure purer sheep than are to bo found in tho L'lchiol flock Tho rams disposed of yesterday were got by rams bred by Mr Sutton, of Thornbury Southland. Mr Thos. Tanner, Hawkes Bay, and Mr S.T. Seddon, Knightou, Hamilton. It was quite evident from tho uuinber of breeders and stockowners present that the reputation of the Lochiel stud sheep had been well established, and such prices as 27 guineas, 21 guineas, and 15 guineas, given by Messrs Park, Seddon and Burugh, respectively—well-known breeders of highclass sheep—goes to prove this in the most substantia! and natisfactory manner. The average of six and a-half guineas is a good record to start \vith, and we trust this is only the beginning of a handsome return for the patient care and attention which must havo been devoted to the subject for the past twenty-five years. All the arrangements in connection with the sale were of the most perfect character. The sheep were penned fivo in a lot and each bore » distinctive brand and uuinber. A splendid lunch was provided, Host Delauoy of Ohaupo, having charge of this department which is a. guarantee that tho company were supplied with everything of the best. Fully a hundred partook of Mr McNicol's hospitality. Before commencing the sale, Mr McNicol said that he had come to the decision to hold an annual sale of his stock, so that he should not come into competition with many of his clients, who were also breeders. There were many flocks in Waikato, ho was happy to say, as good as his, but he knew that people did not caro to see auctioneers competiug in the public market and to avoid this he had come to the conclusion to hold an annual uureserved sale. Every animal he was about to offer was absolutely unreserved, and would be wold to the highest bidder. Very general satisfaction was expressed by the public on hearing these remarks aud the .sale then proceeded. The following is the list of purchasers and the prices paid :—Park, 1 at 27 guineas ; Seddon, lat 'Jigs., and lat 13> 2 gß. ; Barugh, 2 at lflim. ; Alain Bros., 2 at SJes., and 1 at 7gs. ; Pickering, 3 at Sets. ; J."
