BANQUET TO COL FRASER M.H.R
About forty persons were present at a banquet given to Col. Fraser by his friends and supporters at the Club Hotel, Te Aroha, on Thursday evening the 15th inst. Mr James Mills presided and Mr Thomas Bradley occupied the vice chair. Aftor partaking of the plentiful supply provided by host Dovvnes, the usual loyal toasts were d-nnk. when the chairman in felicitous terms proposed the toast ef the evening, the health of Col. Fraser, which was received with musical honouts. Colonel FVase- in responding said he felt flattered at seeing such a large and representative meeting to do him honour ; he thanked them sincerely both for having elected him and for having taken this opportunity of showing their kindly feelings towards him. He had done his utmost for the electorate and had succeeded in many of the matters entrusted to him. The toast of the Mining Industry which was entrusted to Mr Bradley was received very heartily and suitably responded to by Mr Gavin. Other toasts, including the Local Bidies, Agriculture, Ladies, Press, Mrs Fraser, and the Host and Hostess, were given interspersed with songs, and the meeting closed after a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman and vice chairman, by the company singing Auld L ing Syne. The utmost enthusiasm prevailed throughout tho proceedings and altogether a most enjoyable evening was spent.
