Tlie Can-on and Tlpniiifiiji'' rv> are iu a state of siege, and rioting is rife. Tlie Labour Federation has instructed the Unions to boycott :?oo Is from Carron nii'l ll'Tmil icr<; wharves wherever found. The Shipping Federation and other carrying unions are considering a proposal to federate with similar associations in Australia and America. An international conference will probably be convened at Chicago to arrange the terms of the labour block. It is expected tint to-morrow overtures for a settlement oi the dispute -.nil be made to the employers, or to confine the quarrel to its present area. The carpenters' strike continues.and money is being levied in France, Germany, the United States, Canada, ami Australia for their support. October fi. Slight, conflicts are of frequent, occurrence at the Carron Wharf, and the assistance of the police has to be called in. The musters finny that they intend to lock the men out. One hundred and forty free labourers have, arrived at, Carron Wharf to take the place of those on strike, a.nd this time the police appear to be more energetic in preventing them from being molested. A few carmen and waggoners have also been engaged.
