With the proceeds of the lecture tln'y purposed rethis frinnd tliu in<>nov ho had -■ii willingly advanced. Mr Dick handled his .subject in a masterly m.iniicr, and not one nf hia hearers could for a moment doubt but that ho (Mr Dick) is an ardent admirer of the immurtal Burn.-, ; nevertheless he did not hesitate to refer tu the bard's vices as well as his virtues. The lecture was interlarded with some of tho poet's finest effusions, several being givoti by tliß lecturer and others by Mr liobt, Watson, who it is needless to say, was equal to the occasion. Mrs George Booth, Mr John Wallace (of Otahuhu) and Mr U. Ciicket s-ang several Scotch wings; tho Misses J. Anderson and J. Scott gave aScotch pianoforte duet; and Miss Sturfjoss plaved Scotch accompaniments, all taking thiiir icwiJfi.'tivi) parts well.
