Cuthbort, in which the pliiintifF, a magistrate, claimed XjOOO damages from the defendant, formerly Minister of Justice, for inferring he had corruptly adjourned certain cases, a verdiet was returned on general grounds against Cuthbert for £50. A question submitted by the defence that the Minister, in writing on matters of State, is absolutely priveleged was reserved for a full Court. The concensus of opinion in Melbourne of the witnesses examined at the Marine Hoard's enquiry into the collision between the steamers Easby and Gambier is that, the Easby did not at once send a boat to the assistance of the sinking .s)ii|>. Captain I'ridcaux, of the Kasby, in hia evidence before the Marine Board, said he regarded his ship as crossing the vessel, and acted accordingly. Within two minutes after the collision a boat was lowered to ascertain what damage the Gambier bad sull'ered. HoiuuT, September 0. The Federal Hill has been sent to the Legislative Council with two important suggested amendments, viz., (1) that surplus revenue should be returned to the .States on the basin of population ; and (•J) that the Senate should have power to amend money Bills.
