ALEXANDRA

Hon. John Bhyob.— Business being dull, there has been but little for consideration here this last week but the sudden collapse of our member, the Hon. John Bryee. The general opinion is, after any amount ot discussion, that he was too thin-skinned for the company at present ruling the dertinies of New Zealand. What does a vote of censure by these gentlemen amount to?— Rather a compliment than otherwise ; they are "ashamei" of nothing—not even raising their own salaries. It is here unanimously agroed that Mr Bryce ought to have taken the vote of censure " from whence it came," as the boy remarked when the donkey kicked him. Alexandra people were by no means sweet at first on Mr Bryce's election as cur representative, but his conduct in tho House has .von him a host of friends, and his retirement at the present moment is regarded as a public calamity. He was a considerable power in the House, and would in all probability, if he had only waited and given Billance and Co. a little more rope, they would have hanged themselves; and with a new Government the country would once more have progressed on the road to prosperity. (Juk Next Representative.—Several persons havo been mentioned here as fit and proper persons to represent us at thn present crisis, Mr J. D. Hill being one of them. Should that gentleman be induced to come forward, a number of his friends in this district would support his candidature Thk Wkathkk.—Tho late lino weather we havo had is very favourable for farming, and a good breadth of laud is under preparation for wheat crops.
