IUK New Zealand Lo ill and Mercantile Agency Compiiiiy (Limited) report as under : — Stdvkv, August '27.—WliB.it (froi;): There is si distinctly stronger feeiing in the market, and hoi iers will nut now accept anything under 5s L'.l to 5s Hi I per bushel. There is veryl ittlu busings passing, however, but b"!rlors are sanguine »f tjointf abl« to clear their stock* to advant ig.' her.ro long.—Oats (friin) : Since last writing shipments from i\.:w Zealand have Im<oii heavy, and values Iriv.; suffered somewhat in cimseqnencc. («■ i.i.i sti.u(. brurlit ieeding and milling Jit.>s are still in .short supply, and are quoted at up t" L'.s UJd, but inferior to fair feed oats aru very plentiful, and the dull at fi■ >tii Is Sri to Is IL>l per bushel. Seed oats of prime quality are salesable at up to 12 s Id. -Maize (free): Has a downward tendency, supplies having some forward very freely of l ite, tho beat samples of maize c uinot to day be quoted above 2s 3d per bushel. —Butter (duty Id per lb) : The market has continued firm siiieo wo last wrote on tho 13th instant, supplies ruling light, and wo again quote best, local factorymade to Is 9d, and dairy-made tj Is (id per lli. However, the fine weather we are now experiencing will doubtless have the effect of very shortly increasing supplies, and we quite anticipate having to report lower values when next writing. There is no jvally prime quality N. Z. butter offering, but medium to good descriptions may be quoted at from lid upwards.—Cheeso (duty) 2d per lb : The advanced rates lately ruling have caused holders to rush their Available supplies into tho market, and v dues havo been in consequence somewhat n'focted. A considerable portion of tho o'ferings, however, consist of cheese not f illy matured, and for really primo quality 7'd per lb. is still readily obtainable.— ilams (duty :.'d per lb) ; Are in limited request only, We quote best N.Z. cured as nominally worth up to ltd per lb. —Bacon (duty "a per lb); The market is glutted with local bacon, which is offering at from Mil l-> 7d per lb , best New Zealand berig nominally worth from 7d to Nd per lb. "- -Potatoes (free): Thu improvement in values relforrcd to as having just taken place when we last wrote continued to be tv.-;ll maintained until within the last few (I ivs, when owing to the arrival of further *liipmauts, values weakened slightly, and we to-day quote : Circular heads from £3 to ,l"ii per ton ; N.Z. Bluo Dorwents from .22 l.i YM 'Js t>d per tun. Messrs Goldshrough, Mort aud Co. (I•muted) ruport ;~Tho favourable news it-chived by cable from thu United Kingdom reporting an advance in tho price of wheat has bad a corresponding effect on values li ;ro, and buyers show an inclination to jrirchauo freely at an advance of fully one penny per bushel on the rates ruling at the date of our last report ; and as the stocks now held in the colony are unusually light, wn anticipate that the rise will be fully sust lined. There is no change to report in the price of feed grains, the. market being overstocked, in consequence of which we do not see any prospect of improvement.
