A resolution'.vas submitted to the effcct that the Govern* luent, in concert with tho foreign executives, ought to arrange for it legal limit of eight hours; and also demanding that an international conference on (he subject should be convoked. There is great division of' opinion among the rlele[rates on the groat question thus raisr.il. September S, ; The Parliamentary' iCommittee of the Trades Union Congress at Newcastle has passed a resolution condemning the action of the Government in swamping the Labour Commission ill favour of capital. Mr Burt, M.P., in liis opening address at the Trades Union Congress, said he preferred self help to (State compulsion. Sir John Gorst. and Mr W. >S. Leaine were present and a re" solution in favour of the eight hours' system in Great Britain and internationally was. carried by a large majority.
