MARKET REPORTS. The New Zealand Lonn and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report as under ;— Dusedin, August 25.—Wheat: Wo have the following telegram, datod 21st inst., from our London office:—"The weather « very unsettled, in consequence of which the wheat m u ket has an upward tendency." Later telegrams to hand report that the price asked by sellers of New Zealand wheat on the passage has advanced to 43s (ii, while buyers are offering 435. This upward tendency in the market at Home lias not as yet affected the course of business locally—no further than that the few holders are less anxious to quit at late quotations under the impression that ere long a stronger demand will set io, which will doubtless cause prices to advance.— Oats: These continue to have a steady demand, more especially well-grown, full, bright sorts, free from black seeds; other ■ sorts are also saleable, but at prices relatively much lower than for the former. There aro no indications at present of any advance in the nmir future.—The potato market continues in the same sluggish unsatisfactory position, and while the demand is nonfitie I to rho requiMniauti of local consumption only, prices are not likely to improve. flotations: For best, 35s to 40s; oxtra prime, in retail lots, 455; inferior to medium, almost unsaleable.— Dairy produce: The markot is now pretty well cleared of prime salt butter, but, with nn increased supply of fresh, thn demand for tho former is iess active, late quotations being still applicable.—Cheese has only :v moderate demand; buyers decline to give over IJd for medium size factory-made, and 5d for loaf; dairy-made, 3Ad to 4.Jd per lb.
OhkISTCHORCH, A«;ju-t 28.—Wheat : Reports from the OW Country Coinioue to indicate a firm and rising market, which the I.ite-t cable ret;a.diner unfavourable weather for the crops will p'obihly inten sify. L 'tally, babies are somewhat unsettled. Vendors ask hitrher prices than buyers are prepared to concede without mure definite informition.
