Tho strong combined play of the Huntly boys no doubt greatly added tu their success against a team picked from various places in the Lower Waikato, the latter not having the same opportunity of practising together. After the match, at 7.30 p.m., a banquet was provided by Mrs L. B. Harris, in the new hall. When the good things had been discussed to the satisfaction of the fifty guests present, toasts and songs became the order of the evening. The following contributed to the evening's entertainment:—Songs by Messrs W. Ralph, L. Avey, J. Heffenan, Hartley, Findlay (captain), Fred Carter and Joe Albion. The latter gentleman was a great success. Recitations were f,tven by Captain Findlay and Mr Avey. The party broke up about 11 p.m., after a most enjoyable evening. Captain Findlay remarked that the team had never been better treated in any place. —The Pokeno men left on Sunday morning for Mercer in the steam launch, after expressing themselves as thoroughly satisfied ,vith the treatment received.—A correspondent. In reference to the much-talked-of repre. sentative Waikato team in the N.Z. Herald and Observer of last week, goinjr t» play the third selection of Auckland players, iimcli surprise has been felt here among footballers ; and on my having a consultation with the captain and secretary of the Huutly Football Club, I learnt that they had not boon in any way consulted in the matter. This impressed me with the belief that the whole arrangement hud emanated at Hamilton, and it appears ridiculous on the face of it that a team should go out 01 the Waikato without a strong selection from the premier club. —A Huotly correspondent. Tho match referred to in our Saturday's issue between members of the Hamilton and Paterangi Clubs and an Auckland team, will not take place on Saturday next, owintr to the difficulty in getting a team from the above-mentioned clubs. The hon. secretary of the Hamilton Football Club will proceed to Auckland on Thursday to attend the meeting of the committee of the Auckland Rugby Union with reference to the Huntly-Hamilton p«oteßt.
