Alter sum. discussion, the members uf the Town i .Liril unanimously agreed that the trues should lie removed ; and an estimate of the cost of their removal obtained, and sent to Mr Shepherd before (lie next mKctiiiK of the Wuipa County Council. The question of tlia defective drainage of tlira main road, neir the railway bridee was then brought up ; the councillor's attention beiiiß drawn to tho small sum expended in the township, consideiii'K the amount of rates collected, Mr E. Kitzpatriol: adding that the aißument frequently used, that the whol« of the rate collected by the county w,v spent upon tho ferry service, and tiierefoiu should be charged as expenditure within the tawn district, was manifestly unfair. They paid, directly, their alloted contribution tu the punt, and to have the Waipa County contribution also charged against them, was simply having to pay it twice over. R£r Kitzuatrick strongly contended that tho cost of maintaining all bridges, ferries, etc-, which were of more benefit to extensive districts and the county as a whole than to tho iuiniedixte localities in which they were situated, should bo charged to the gonerul county fund, and not localised in this manner. —Mr Shepherd promised that he would lay their views before the Council.—The state nf the main county road from Stone's corner to Ngarnawahiu was discussed, —Mr .Shepherd, having just gone over it, admitted it was in a baii state; but before asking the Council to do anything he would like to have an expression of opinion from the settlers who chiefly used the road as to what they thought was necessary to do upon it. As they were aware, the county enginoer had made an estimate last autumn of the cost of completing the road in a thorough manner, but the amount required, unless they did a very small portion, wns utterly beyond their meins. They know the snrill sum that was available to sppnd upon road work in the riding, nnd although he would do his best for them, he held out mi liopns of much expenditure upon that or any other road ; but if the settlors met and agreed u|-on modified improvements over this line, lie beliced the Council would endeavour to comply with their wishes.—Tho Town Hoard decided to call a meeting of the settlers, and forward the result to their councillor.
